Breast Asymmetry
What is Breast Asymmetry Surgery
Dr. Bartlett has had significant experience with the correction of breast asymmetry through his work at Boston Children’s Hospital, especially within the adolescent unit. Breast asymmetry is treated in a variety of ways depending on the individual patient’s anatomy, physique, and aesthetic goals. The solution might be as simple as reducing the larger breast with a breast reduction, or it might be as complex as augmenting both breasts with different sized implants and performing a reshaping breast lift on both sides. Dr. Bartlett appreciates the sensitive nature of such issues, particularly in younger patients.
Breast Asymmetry Consultation
If you are considering breast asymmetry surgery in Boston, the first step is a confidential consultation with Dr. Bartlett. At this time, he will perform a medical evaluation and listen carefully to understand your goals. He will answer questions about the benefits and risks of surgery, describe the treatment process, and may discuss alternative treatment options.
Dr. Bartlett will create and personalize your surgical plan and will instruct you on how to prepare for your procedure. You will likely be asked to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after the surgery and to help out during initial recovery. You may also be asked to stop or change your current medications as part of the preparation. This is because certain medications may result in increased bleeding and must be avoided.
Breast Asymmetry Procedure – What to expect
Depending on the treatment plan, you may undergo a breast augmentation, a breast lift, a breast reduction, or other breast procedures. Treatment might involve a combination of breast surgeries.
Incisions will be made according to the exact changes needed. Local anesthetic is injected while you are asleep so that you are able to wake up comfortably.
Breast asymmetry procedures are performed under general anesthesia.

Most surgeries are performed in out AAAASF Certified office operating room or in a hospital setting.
Breast Asymmetry Surgery and Recovery
Dr. Bartlett and his staff will review details of the recovery process, providing instructions and prescription medications prior to surgery.
After surgery, you will remain in a surgical bra. You will continue to wear a supportive bra day and night for 6 weeks. Showering is allowed in most patients beginning 48 hours after surgery. Swelling and bruising will be present and can last for 1 to 2 weeks. Pain medication is prescribed and is typically used for 2 or 3 days after surgery. Numbness and firmness may persist for months but do not affect appearance. Final results are judged at one year.
Most patients take 1 to 2 weeks off from work or school. Specific recommendations will be made for each patient.
"Everyone that’s ever known me has called me Mrs. Just So. In other words, I am very particular and also a perfectionist in all areas. I couldn’t have picked a better plastic surgeon. My husband and I met Dr. Bartlett and didn’t even feel that we had to get a second opinion. No one can even tell that I had this done. People will say, “Oh, I love your haircut, you look so good,” and then other people I tell will say, “Oh my god, I want his number.” They say they’ve never seen anyone look so natural. Dr. Bartlett is a perfectionist and very tedious and is an artist. He listens and cares and even called me over the weekend to see how I was doing. His entire staff is very friendly and knowledgeable as well. I would recommend Dr. Bartlett to anyone!"
